History The History Of A True Vermont Bank 1851 The Peoples Bank founded in Derby Line, VT.
1865 The Peoples Bank converts to national charter and becomes the National Bank of Derby Line.
1926 National Bank of Derby Line obtains trust powers.
1970 First branch office opened in Derby, VT. Total bank assets of $10.2 million. The National Bank of Derby Line acquires the Island Pond National Bank and changes its name to Community National Bank. Main office relocates from Derby Line to Derby, VT. Total bank assets of 39.6 million.
1981 CNB opens a new office in Barton, VT in the C&C supermarket.
1982 CNB introduces its exclusive Weekly Payment Mortgage.
1983 Community Bancorp., our bank holding company, is formed.
1984 CNB opens a new office in Newport, VT in Fedele’s grocery store.
1985 Barton office outgrows grocery store and relocates to current location.
1986 CNB opens a new office in Troy, VT.
1988 “Community Circle,” our seniors’ program, is launched.
1990 Total bank assets of $143.9 million at year-end.
1992 CNB introduces first “Community Booster Loan” program.
1993 Major addition to Derby office completed. CNB acquires first ATM.
1994 Island Pond office relocates to historic railroad station. CNB offers telephone banking. Business Circle is started.
1995 CNB opens its first office in Caledonia County at the new Price Chopper in St. Johnsbury.
1996 CNB inaugurates Community Service Award Program. Introduced CNB’s debit card. Totally Kids Club™ started.
1997 Totally Kids Club™ wins national award.
1998 Community Circle celebrates 10th anniversary with over 2700 members.
1999 Newport office relocates to new state office building. CNB becomes a certified NHFA lender. CNB NetXpress Internet Banking offered. CNB becomes a partner of America’s Promise. CNB wins a national “Action Award” from ABA’s Center for Community Development.
2000 CNB is Y2K compliant. Total bank assets of $232 million.
2001 CNB celebrates 150-year anniversary. CNB opens first office in Washington County and central VT at 95 State St. in Montpelier, VT.
2002 CNB wins the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Community Service. Community Financial Services Group, LLC, a trust company equally owned by Community National Bank, The National Bank of Middlebury and Guaranty Bancorp., the holding company of Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank, is formed.
2003 CNB opens Barre office at 316 North Main St. 2004 Expansion plans for a new operations center at the Derby office is initiated.
2004 Plans to expand the Derby office are underway.
2005 The Derby office expansion is completed. CNB's lending team recieves the USDA Rural Development Lender of the Year Award.
2006 CNB's lending team receives the USDA Rural Development Lender of the Year Award, for the second year running. TK and the Totally Kids Club celebrate 10 years of teaching children how to save.
2007 August 2, 2007 CNB announces plans to acquire LyndonBank. As of the close of business on December 31, 2007 LyndonBank was merged with and into Community National Bank.
